Bellmore, NY – Every day 44 more people are diagnosed with lupus. Every hour 2 more people are told they have this chronic life-threatening disease that has no cure, and has not had a medication designed specifically to treat it in over 40 years. Armed with those statistics the Lupus Alliance of America LI/Q Affiliate focuses much of its time and attention on the needs of those with lupus and their families. This summer the Lupus Alliance is running several fundraisers in order to raise funds to continue to support those with lupus, while also searching and fighting to find a cure.

Jean Pollack of Bellmore, a dollhouse enthusiast and great-aunt of a child with lupus, watched through the years as the Lupus Alliance of LI/Q assisted her grandniece and her family and knew she had to find a way to give back to the organization. That is how the dollhouse campaign began last year, and it has been a huge success so far, raising over $2,000! This year, Mrs. Pollack has donated a stunning 9 room colonial dollhouse, even bigger and better than last year’s model. Tickets are on sale now through December 1st, for 1 for $5 or 6 for $20. This dollhouse would be a perfect present for a collector or a beautiful holiday gift for a young child. The Lupus Alliance will have the house on display and tickets on sale at their Annual Walk-Along for Lupus in Eisenhower Park, on October 21, 2007.

Another summer fundraiser the Lupus Alliance is offering this year is Givenik.com. The Long Island edition will go on sale August 1st for $20 and the NYC edition will go on sale August 30th for $25. You can pick the book up at the Bellmore office located at 2255 Centre Ave, or you can have it mailed to you at an additional $2.50 shipping and handling charge.
