Men`s Health Week |
DURING NATIONAL MEN`S HEALTH WEEK, THE LUPUS ALLIANCE URGES ALL MEN TO TAKE THE LUPUS SELF-SCREENING TEST, ONE MINUTE OF YOUR TIME AND ELEVEN QUESTIONS THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Almost 2 Million Americans have lupus; a chronic life threatening autoimmune disease
that affects more Americans than multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia and leukemia
combined. Since 90% of those with lupus are women, very few men who have symptoms follow
through with a check-up. However before the age of 13 and after the age of 55 a man’s chance of
getting lupus is almost even with the instances of lupus in women.
Ignoring lupus can be a life-threatening decision. According to a recent study at Johns Hopkins
University, men who have lupus were much more likely to develop antibodies that could form serious
clots in their systems, putting them at risk for heart attacks and strokes. Men and young boys can no
longer afford to ignore lupus, they need to be just as vigilant as women of the warning signs in order
to catch the disease early on.
June 11-17 is National Men’s Health week. The purpose of Men's Health Week is to heighten the
awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease
among men and boys. With this is mind, The Lupus Alliance is encouraging all men especially those
who have experienced symptoms such as achy joints, fevers, extreme fatigue, skin rashes, seizures,
and weakness to call the Lupus Alliance at 1-800-850-9000 for their free copy of the Lupus Self-
Screening Test during National Men’s Health Week from June 11-17.
This life saving test can help determine whether an individual should consult a doctor for further
evaluation. Help the men in your life, by ordering this free self-screener. For more information on
lupus email the Alliance at info@lupusliqueens.org, or visit their website www.lupusliqueens.org
