For 2009 we have extended the deadline for applications to the Maxine Manara Memorial Scholarship to July 10th. So there is still time to apply. Remember this is for any young adult in college already or about to start that has lupus or has a parent with lupus as long as you live in Nassau, Suffolk or Queens County in New York State. The Maxine Manara Memorial Scholarship Program has been funded by an extremely generous grant of $25,000 from the McCarthy Foundation, and named after longtime staff member, Maxine Manara who was very dedicated to helping those with lupus during her years at the Alliance.

The Maxine Manara Memorial Scholarship Program is open to anyone who has lupus and to minors under 21 whose parent has lupus. Applicants must live in Nassau, Suffolk or Queens and meet the financial need requirements. The student must be already attending or has been accepted to an accredited College, University, or Trade School and is working toward a degree. The minimum scholarship award is $500, and the deadline for 2008 applications is July 1st. Further details on the scholarship are available on the Alliance’s website at www.lupusliqueens.org.

Applications require proof of income, and residency as well as a copy of the applicants FAFSA report (you can get a copy of yours online at http://www.fafsa.com.

Once received, your application will be reviewed by the Scholarship committee. Scholarships are awarded every August and the application must be postmarked by July 1st. The decision of the committee will be e-mailed and U.S. mailed to each applicant by August 1st.

Please remember only a completed application with the requested documents attached will be considered for a scholarship.
