This year marked our 13th Annual Walk Along for Lupus, and what a walk it was! So far the total is up to $215,000 and counting!! More donations and matching gifts come in every day, and we are sure we will either match or beat last year’s total of $233,000!!

This could not be achieved without our wonderful walkers who come and support this event every year. Each year we gain new friends, and we are delighted to have them join our return walkers. These wonderful volunteers take it upon themselves to raise more money each year for our walk.

They knock on doors; ask their friends, neighbors and colleagues. They ask the companies they work for to match the donations they receive, they find us new sponsors and product donors, and help us spread the word by handing out our walk brochures all over Long Island and Queens. Many hold events in local pubs and restaurants to raise their donations for the walk, while others have big family teams with members from all over the country, raising money to show support for a relative who has lupus.

This year our teams increased dramatically and they all seemed to have a great time. Our schools, many of whom have been with us for years, once again came through with big numbers, some of whom donated their allowance or money they earned at a part time job, even change from their lunchrooms, whatever they had to help us help those with lupus.

So, for this month, we congratulate our walkers, all of you, for once again coming through and helping us make our Walk Along for Lupus the most successful lupus walk on Long Island that not only supports lupus research but the individual with lupus as well.
