2004 Gala Brunch |
On Sunday, April 25, 2004 we proudly honored several people who are very important to the growth of this Alliance at our 2nd annual Gala brunch.
Over 125 people attended this affair to show their support. The music was wonderful, courtesy of Lou Messina and Dave Lobenstein. The Melville Marriott served a superb buffet brunch which was followed by the awards ceremony. The honorees were:
Richard Furie, MD is Chief of Division of Rheumatology and Allergy-Clinical Immunology, NSUH and member of the Board of Directors of this Alliance. He directs the Program in Novel Therapeutics, the Hospital’s clinical research program as well as the Hospital’s SLE and Autoimmune Disease Treatment Center, among other duties.
Peter Rumore, MD, of Rheumatology Associates of Long Island is also a member of our Board of Directors. At present Dr. Rumore is a partner in private practice with Rheumatology Associates and has engaged in basic research into the pathogenesis of lupus and other autoimmune diseases. In 1990 he was Chief of Rheumatology at Nassau County Medical Center where he founded the Lupus clinic.
Carole-Anne Bonner, age 15, her parents, JC & Kevin and her grandparents John and Patricia Vander-Putten have been dedicated members of this Alliance. Carole-Anne was diagnosed with lupus at age 12. Since 5th grade she has been a high honor roll student, receiving special honors in math excellence as well as English. She has also been a Girl Scout since age 6.
JC, Kevin, Pat, John, and let’s not forget brother Luke, have worked to help this Alliance in anyway they could. They created team VIVP and have raised thousands of dollars for our Annual Walk-Along. John and Pat have donated their time at the Lupus office on many occasions. In addition to supporting this Alliance, they help support Camp Sunshine in Maine, The Make-A-Wish Alliance and Give Kids the World with financial donations as often as possible.
