Symptoms of Lupus

Lupus presents itself in a variety of different ways. Often, symptoms develop so slowly, with feelings of illness coming and going so that no pattern emerges. The signs of lupus differ from one person to another.

However, there are many common symptoms that many people with lupus share:

Prolonged or extreme fatigue
Joint swelling (arthritis)
Joint ache (arthralgia)
Muscle ache (myalgia)
Unexplained low grade fever (less than 101 degrees F)
Skin rashes
Butterfly shaped rash across the cheeks and nose
Anemia (low blood count)
Hair loss (alopecia)
Chest pain when breathing deeply (pleurisy)
Sun or light sensitivity (photosensitivity)
Raynaud’s phenomenon (fingers turning red, white and/or blue in the cold)
Weight loss
